Welcome
Who is Lily the Pink?
I am a British lady who knows what it is like to be both in mental distress and to care for someone in mental distress. My life has changed considerably now and I am on the other side. However, I have learnt a lot in this process and I would like to use this experience to help others.
What is mental distress?
Mental illness is something that covers a range of experiences that stop the thought process working 'normally'. It can be anything from depression to believing other people want to hurt you when there is no credible evidence that this is the case. On the other hand 'normal' people find themselves upset and unable to cope with life but don't really consider themselves to be mentally ill. I see both categories of people as being in mental distress. (By the way if anyone can tell me what normal is I wish that they would tell me, but I cannot think of a better word.)How can we help?
Our first project is a series of workshops followed by small groups set up to help people who want further support. It is hoped to use them to practise the format used by a charity three hours drive from our registered office. Our partners will then help us take forwards those ideas so that the method that they use that has brought help to many people can be used in this area. You can see the progress that has been made on the events pageWhat we would like to do in the future?
The big dream is Lily's Place, a centre where people could come and get just about every form of support necessary to recover from mental distress. There would be- a quiet area for spiritual refreshment
- a study area for those who want to improve their literacy and numeracy skills or gain other qualifications
- a business/employment area where people could learn or practise skills that would help them set up a business or get a job
- a living area where people could come and practise housekeeping or DIY skills
- a practical helps area for those setting up a new home or moving home
- a social area for those who want to meet friends and have something to eat
What about the online courses?
A little while ago I found out how I could set up some online courses linked to my web site. I started to use some of my old teaching materials to prepare some courses. The list of courses currently available can be seen on the course log in page.In the future it is hoped to give people a way of using their experience and training to reach out and help others by developing online courses. Those setting up courses will have to be accepted as partner of Lily the Pink Ministries and make a contribution towards the running costs of Lily the Pink Ministries.
- Have a go at doing some
of
the courses for yourself and then
encourage other people to do likewise. Remember the courses
are
free.
- Become a partner
of Lily the Pink Ministries. Anyone can
become a partner of Lily the Pink Ministries. You do not have to be
someone who wants to create a course. (see
becoming a member page)
- Contribute an
online
course
so that the number and range of courses
offered by Lily the Pink Ministries grows. (see
what online course could you
contribute page)
- We have set up a link to an online shopping area. There is a choice of over 100 different stores in this shopping area. When you go to the Buy At store you can find popular online merchants like Amazon. You will not have to pay anymore but we will be paid some commission. Most of the time you will be able to see how much commission we will earn.
- Pray for us. Nothing can happen without prayer and we would value your prayers.
